Simulated Arcing for Frankenstein style switches.
« on: July 22, 2016, 12:36:38 am »
I have come across some old switches that I want to use to switch real stuff but only at low voltage and with simulated arcing.

12V to Drive contactor for switching.
LEDs and peizos for simulated arcing, via a small micro.

Anyone got any ideas on how to make this as cool as possible?

I would imagine using a disposable camera flash for the the main effect and some green / white leds for the full effect, , led's dont quite look the part, copper arcing has a hue of green, , and for the sound, it shouldnt be hard to record a good few arcs to cycle through,

Camera flash, yes that sounds just like what I want. thanks.

But not disposable, I'll look up some flash units, whatever they are.

Simply significantly increase the voltage and current you are switching.  Hey presto, highly realistic "simulated" arcs!

(One minor drawback is that this method might destroy your vintage switches and / or kill the operator)

So u suggest a full realism mode.

In summary.

Pros
Super Scary
Fast track evolution
Lovely smell.
Pre built DC arc extinguisher included.

Cons
Police visits
Power bill.
