Vias in drain pad for MOSFET

I'm limited in space on the top side of my board to put a copper pour around the drain of a MOSFET for thermal relief. I know it's common to have exposed pad vias to ground in many ICs, but is good practice to say drop some small vias in the large drain pad to a pour on the reverse side of the board?
