Acer Aspire e1-570 backlight needs fixing
« on: May 21, 2015, 07:15:47 am »
My sons Acer Aspire e1-570 is missing the backlight. 3 months out of warranty.
HDMI out is good, screen shows up with a torch shined on it.
I took a punt and replaced the screen but the problem is still the same.

I am guessing the power supply for the backlight, which I guess is on the motherboard.

Has anyone got any info/ schematics, especially the 30 pin connector pinout?

the 30 pin connector looks like this

Also could it be some power monitoring setting?

backlight usually doesnt die without a reason, Im guessing liquid damage on the motherboard = eroded connections under lcd connector, backlight fuse or backlight boost converter chip & its passives.
You will need to take pcb out. Start by inspecting for moisture signs, pink/red copper pads, grey residue on solder joints, or even missing smd parts. Use magnifying glass/microscope and continuity tester. If you cant find anything then next step is connecting everything outside case and measuring voltages.

My fireplace is on fire, but in all the wrong places.

Check around the lcd connector, I have already repaired many that had a failed mosfet, its easy to spot it, its always a big-ish cooper flood around 2-4 pins of the lcd connector and should have 18-19v when the laptop is connected to the charger.

Thanks for the schematic that is great!
Liquid on pcb sounds plausible for a kid. Or me for that matter.
