Agilent/HP 8648 B/C/D Firmware re-programming

Hi Gents,

Anyone have experience reprogramming the firmware
so that after upgrading one or more boards,
that is the upgrade options, on the HP 8648 b/c/d
the unit works and functions properly?

I think there might be some folks out there,
including me, that could benefit from this.

What kind of processor is used inside the device?

Is the way the CPU talks to the rest of the hardware documented somewhere?
If not, it'll be quite difficult to reverse-engineer the functions just from the machine code.

I did a bit of googling, and you all may be interested in THIS

Specifically, it has a Motherboard Utility, where I think you can pick the options added to your device.
