Can anyone identify this chip
« on: July 04, 2015, 09:47:28 am »
Hi,
Is anyone able to identify this chip and a proper replacement?
I am trying to repair an Asus laptop motherboard.
Any help is appreciated
Thank you

I would assume it's some kind of TVS diode array.

Might be hard to find a generic replacement, to as TVS arrays are often targeted at specific applications. For example CDSOT23-720 is specially targeted for RS-485 interfaces.

If you can find the service manual for that board (ASUS K55VD REV 3.0: it probably exists), it should give you a part number.  Good luck.

Googling for "k55vd asus pcb" brings up interesting pictures from a polish forum:

The connector is described as power jumper there. They couldn't identify the chip either.
I fear that looking for a SOT23-6 TVS diode array with the marking "21" could be somewhat difficult.

Electrons are typically male, always looking for any hole to get into.

Any chance it could be this

http://www.diodes.com/datasheets/BAS21TW.pdf

if you do not think the last marking is a "t"  but a vertical marking YM  (year month)

look at the "marking" section

If you go here and join up, you can then download the files yourself to look at.

25 !,oh well you can blow a few then, send us pics of the magic smoke....

If you download those files and run up boardview it will be in chinese , go to the top of the window and click the third from the right, then the second one down and change the language to English. then press CTRL+F10 to load the file in ok.

you will need to load the file named K55VD 3.1,60-N8DMB1800-B03.FZ into the sub directory calle fab in the main programme directory then when pressed ctrl+f10 to load it paste the name minus the extension in the pop up box and then ok. you then need to use the RefDes box to drop down to the part you are looking for by its board designation. it will tell you what part it is in that.

Well played Deathwish! :-+

@tk1: I guess that if it's an ESD protection like Deathwish posted, the mainboard should work even with that part blown (unless it's shorted?), don't you?

What are the symptoms other than that component blown? I guess that to damage that ESD protection in such way, you need just a lot more energy than ESD, so maybe there is something that could be damaged other than that component. What do you think about this?
