Can someone help me identify this chip
« on: December 10, 2018, 08:45:27 am »
Hello everyone,

this is a board from Mercedes Atego truck, and I can't find anything on this IC. If someone could find some datasheet or something because I am completely stuck with this. The writings on it are: MICRONAS CEVE 1718 0061 53 HF F 080577001.

Thank you in advance!

P.S. Pic of IC is in the attached

Its pretty likely to be custom spun silicon for mercedes, at a guess about a 1990 model?

Tell me what your trying to diagnose and I can probably help,

Most of the settings are kept in that 93c66 eeprom in the bottom left of the image. and If you knew the exact vehicle model I may be able to dig up an eeprom image if you suspect its corrupt.

Edit: is the pin on the middle of the right row missing?

A very gracious offer, good sir... Good on you!

Good eye! I wonder how that happened. Impact, of some sort? Vibration just feels less likely.

I wonder if it can be bodged. That depends on its size, the OP's skills and tools, of course. If the chip has a Mercedes price tag, I sure would give it a try.

From first hand experience, I can say that Mercedes will never sell that chip, if they have stock of the clusters, they will charge you both for the cluster and to program it separately, if you get a second hand one though, you can transplant the eeprom and it will work the exact same, milage and all.

As for fixing the pin, If you don't get greedy its not that hard, just find a single strand of the thinnest wire you have, tack it on the board then try and tack to the remaining part of the pin in the plastic, if things get really dire you can file down, but that is really getting to last resorts,

Oh wow, I am impressed with the community  to be honest!!!

Regarding the chip you are absolutely right! The problem is with the pin in the middle, driver door was damaged and was removed for repair, rain came in and fell on the dash... long story short it shorted out on trace and pin burned out, I repaired all the corrosion and damage and I am left with the burned out pin. Even when I look inside the hole that left where pin used to be I can't see any remains of the leg, so the file is only approach if I can't get the chip replaced.
Truck in question is Mercedes Atego 815 year 2002.
Regarding the skill and tools I consider myself moderately skilled and have all the tools (if one can say that since you never have all the tools you would want XD)

So yeah that leaves 2 options, try the repair, and hope the bond wire didnt burn up too, (if the pin burnt off you likely have an intact bond wire) you file / sandpaper down that edge of the chip until the lead fram is exposed, then you should be good to bodge in,

Other is contact your local car part wreckers to see if they have a dash for your truck, then test it and transplant the eeprom. here in Aus they generally go for $200 or so for old truck dashes, as they get in a lot of write off's

It's surprisingly clean for a "burnt off" pin, almost looks like it was produced that way.

I will let you know what I managed to do, will try to tack it if that doesn't work ill probably get a spare one, tho here in eastern Europe I can't find it under 250-300 euros, and that is gonna hurt :)

Thanks for the help ill keep you updated!!

Yea regarding that i cleaned the contacts and dash that's why its clean that well :p
tho if you zoom in and look carefully you can see the piece of leg that left on the pad since the pad transfer a lot of heat and didn't burn up.

Odd that the pin burned and not the PCB trace with its much smaller cross section area.

Hello guys,

sorry I couldn't answer until now I was crushed with work.

Regarding the chip I did try to repair it by grinding a little bit at the missing leg and found that there was some sort of internal explosion happened that made a "cave" inside burning pins on both sides.
So I got a replacement second hand cluster (250 euros) and that is the way I repaired it.

Thank you all for help!
