Chromebook power port fix
« on: April 29, 2016, 05:20:25 pm »
Hi all,

I posted this on other forums with no response hoping maybe i will get some info here.

I created a tutorial to replace the damaged parts for hp's use, after receiving the tutorial they informed me of a mistake i made when selecting replacement part i used a 1.8 amp usb they told me it should be 3 amp.
I tested the amperage and sure enough it does do a 3 amp draw..

So, I have been on a parts quest for a year now hoping the manufacture will give me a part number for a charging micro-usb port but they have not.

It is a hp g1 chromebook power usb port.
3 Amp micro, Right Angle, Horizontal, board cutout smd.

apparently only pins 1 and 5 are needed to be 3 amp as they are the power / ground pins.
Also I have contacted newark, mouser, and digi-keys staff but I was informed that there are no 3 amp micro usb parts. Which is not true at all.

here is some pics, on top of the usb it says t372

Thanks all,
Don

Hi Don.  Did you ever find the correct port for this? I am having the same issue and cannot find the correct port.  Thanks for any information you might have.

Not 100% sure this would be a mechanical fit but here is a 3A micro usb:
