Cleaning up an old Metcal - Goo Gone?
« on: February 13, 2018, 09:04:56 am »
I'm thinking of finally getting round to cleaning up my old, second hand, MX-500.  It's got the usual sticker residue, as well as gunk on the bottom from the cheap rubber feet.  Would Goo Gone be a suitable cleaner for this?  I'm concerned about damaging the anodised aluminium surface.

I'll probably replace the power switch too.   Looks like the previous owners were using the hot tip of the iron to turn it off.  >:(

and maybe some tiny drops of WD-40.

Goo gone hasn't been a problem for me on aluminum, it just leaves  that residue that takes a couple passes with a damp cloth to remove.  Apply to the cloth instead of directly to the residue to prevent issues with it getting elsewhere and that should be fine.

I just used isopropanol on mine. I had a bulb go out on each of the ps2e-01 that I've bought so you have to remove the sticker. Maybe similar adhesive?
