Fluke 11 backward battery
« on: November 24, 2016, 07:33:31 am »
So I think that I killed my oldest multimeter today when I accidentally put the battery in backwards. When the battery is installed (correctly) and the meter is turned on it goes into a reset loop, where it turns on everything on the LCD (happens when the meter is turned on normally) then briefly shows a fairly normal screen, but without any numbers at all (not even zeros), then loops. It behaves differently if you put it into the non-voltage testing mode it displays the low battery icon and does not reset (but still does not display numbers, or have any working functionality)

I tested all of the components on board, except for the 2 ICs. They all appear to be fuctioning.

I can't read a schematic to save my life, but in the Fluke 12 service manual, the schematic for the Fluke 11 shows a 1N4002 diode (CR1) attached to the positive battery terminal.   Is this diode shorted?

Have you checked VSS and VDD?
