Fluke 196C Smashed Screens ?
« on: October 08, 2017, 02:11:37 am »
Searching on eBay for Fluke 199C or 196C for parts/repair,  I see many units with displays that look like they were smashed with hammer.

Is there a reason for this?

Something like cutting off the electrical cord of faulty device?

Also, are displays available for these units?

Thanks

Fluke ScopeMeter® 190 series high performance digital oscilloscopes are rugged, compact, battery powered & they troubleshoot demanding industrial applications.

Maybe just not as rugged as the Marketing group made them out to be?  :-//

I would take a guess that it really isnt robust, the screen is directly exposed without anything to prevent a direct impact when mr tradie throws it in the tool bag.

That's just cruel and should be forbidden.

There are a couple of video on YouTube that show teardown and repair of the Fluke scopemeters.

The first one:

This is a color scopemeter.

The second one by Dave has a monochrome display:

Looking at these teardown videos you can get a good idea on what parts were hit when the unit was smacked with a hammer.

The color display is probably khs057qv1cr-g01. This is the part number of the display found in the R&S FSH3 Spectrum analyzer.

The problem is that the datasheet for khs057qv1cr-g01 shows a 16 pin connector, but I believe the scopemeter has 22 pin connector.

The Service Manual, with schematics can be found here:

https://elektrotanya.com/fluke_192b_196b-c_199b-c_scopemeter.pdf/download.html

I have attached the datasheet for the khs057qv1cr-g01 LCD Module, but it doesn't match the schematic in the scopemeter manual.

I think that these eBay would be a very tough to fix.
