Fluke 289 - Lead detection?
« on: March 21, 2018, 11:20:49 pm »
Does anyone know how the 289 does the lead detection?  Mine is having fits at times popping up the error that the leads are inserted wrong.  When this happens, it doesn't matter which way the leads are inserted, current or voltage.  You can spin the dial thru all modes and it just beeps away and is completely useless.  If I plug them in and out, wiggle things or just bang it on the bench it finally stops.  Last time I was in it, I thought it looked like it was optically sensing this?  Is that correct?  Maybe its just dirt in the sensitive bits, bad ir led or detector?

The metal contacts on the battery compartment are rather beat up, so I hate opening it more than I have to.  Just looking for some direction to get in and out in a single shot.

Perfect.  Thank you and the OPs in the other threads!

DS2 just as in the third link had broke lose.  Found it floating in the case, repaired and its back in action.
