Simple search says that this meter needs to be serviced. I doubt there is anything you can do yourself.

Are you the original owner of this Fluke 87V and did you purchase it new from an authorized dealer?  If yes, this meter should be covered under warranty.

Did you try a new battery?  When you turn on the 87V, it should show F87 briefly as it goes through self test.

Thank you! You've seen this error before? What could be the fault?

That means the code F8? you can give me a link to a page with this error code please?

Seems someone else had the same problem

http://www.fixya.com/support/t13734318-fluke_87v_f8_error

The user manual :

http://www.transcat.com/media/pdf/80vUserManual.pdf
and on page 12 (or 20 in the pdf)
F8 - "Invalid model. Have Meter serviced. "

Sounds like Fluke use the same circuit board for the 80 series5 and program the model number in. This has been corrupted.

If your friend is the original owner and bought it from a Fluke authorized dealer, get him/her to send back to Fluke to fix under warranty.

If your friend cannot, offer $5 USD for the meter.  For this type of error, I estimate there is a less than 10% chance of fixing it yourself.

The meter must be serviced by Fluke. It looks like the firmware has become corrupted. They will need to do the repair. There is nothing that you can do yourself to repair this.
