GW Instek sfg-1003 unsteady output
« on: May 17, 2018, 10:31:20 pm »
So I'm relatively new to the whole electronics game (about a year in) and I have slowly been gathering goodies to add to my toy box. I recently came upon a function generator for the low low price of free but soon found out that there was an issue with it. The signal it outputs is a tad.... jumpy? you can see what I mean in the attached image I hooked it up to a scope, set the desired output to 1 Khz and soon found out that there was a problem.

With some button pressing and knob turning I have found that:

-The problem persists across sine, square and triangle waves
-Adjusting the amplitude would cause the signal to "steady" out at certain voltages. (I cannot remember the values) however I was never able to obtain a "clean" signal.
-Changing the Frequency does not clean up the signal.
-Nothing smells outright cooked.
-No visual faults on the board

So far I have tried:

-To find some form of schematic or service manual for this thing but came up dry.
-Started to draw out the schematic for a generally easier view of it before realizing that it was a lot of work and that I should just ask for help from more knowledgeable people.
-Searched forums for someone with a similar problem.
-Checked output Frequency of the crystal  :-// (all good)

So I turn to you good people to see if anyone has any ideas as to what's wrong with it.
