Help Identifying Component: CID TI 17J P JNF
« on: February 23, 2017, 03:12:40 pm »
Hi all,

I've just started getting into electronics and electronic repair... more for a hobby than work.  I've been successful in a few repairs now.  Other than that I'm pretty new at this!

I have a breast pump control board that has shorted.  I think the culprit is this this chip (CID TI 17J P JNF).  I can't seem to find anything on it... and I'm also not quite sure what it does.  The board connects to a 12V DC supply and it appears that this chip occurs shortly after where the supply enters the board.  The unit can also be battery powered so I'm not sure if its related to this.

I used the alcohol evaporation technique to determine the "hot component" and this was the clear winner which is why I suspect this is the issue.

Help!  Thanks!

TI means it was made by Texas Instruments (a semiconductor company)
And I found something similar here (although, I don't think it's an exact match):
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/1x-NEW-BQ24103RHLR-TI-Part-Mark-CID-QFN-20pin-Power-IC-Chip-Ship-From-USA-/251075809202
You could have a look here:

Or maybe try to contact em directly and inquire about what exact chip it is (as it's definitely one they've made!)

Thanks for the reply!  I had pretty much assumed the TI was for Texas Instruments.

That BQ24103 does look pretty similar.  Appears to have the "CID" code as part of the markings.  I wonder what does the 17J mean as well as the PJNF?

I've sent a message to TI.... I wonder how likely they are to get back to me.

I'm at a loss as to where else to look for this component.  The recommended board layout in the datasheet for the BQ24103RHLR appears to be pretty similar to what I have.

Thanks!

It appears TI also have an online forum & live chat, so you might wanna try your luck with these!
Just go here:
http://www.ti.com/guidedsupport/docs/taxonomypage.tsp?categoryId=509
Click on the first item (Help with Device Selection) and you'll have links to the forum & chat on the right.
Good luck.

CID - I reckon is the Custom Identification Number / Parts. As this is the custom part, the pinout would be different from commercial available. But it looks closer to part like LM20124 and those series. Well, let's hope texas instrument will respond your query.

Wow.  Very impressed with Ti support. Response within 12 hours!

Here's their response.
Thank you for contacting TI Support.

You are absolutely correct. Those markings correlate to the BQ24103RHLR; http://www.ti.com/product/BQ24103/samplebuy

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Thanks to everyone here for pointing me in the right direction.  Now to order and try and install! I think I'll practise some smd work on a scrap board first.
