High Voltage Probe PM 8936/09 is in a bad condition
« on: July 02, 2015, 12:46:54 pm »
Hi,
I scored a HV 100:1 probe which is working not optimal.
the divider is working so far, but the curve looks as something is to slow.
the adjustment with the trim capacistor is impossible, look at the first shot. (the hole for the trimmer is on the small side not visible at my photos)
The applied Signal is the 0.5V peak Test Square Generator from my tek 2232.

But wait, what if I could adjust it with some of the plenty trimer inside?
I do have no clue about the schematics of the probe.
Does it make sense to reverse engeneer the schematics or is it useless, because this probe is simply defect and a hobby man like me can not repair it?
I thought it could be possible to exchange the defective trim capacistor ...
The other turn of the card is what if I have to replace a part, would it be hard to gather?

I think i have the adjustment procedures for that probe somewhere at my office. It describes perfectly which pot and which cap is responsible for what specific part of the waveform. I think it even has the schematic in it. I'll try to make a scan of it tomorrow.

Here is the promised manual, unfortunately it's not for the PM8936 but for the PM8931. I don't know what the specific difference between both probes is, but the PCB of both probes seem to be identical so the adjustment procedure should fit to yours.

The manual unfortunately doesn't include a schematic, but there is not much inside the probe and on the PCB, so it should be pretty easy to draw down the schematic of it if you really need it.

Thanx a lot!
I'm trying my luck and will report!
Could take a few days because of family restrictions ;-)
