HP 33120A with bad rotary encoder
« on: April 29, 2017, 10:35:45 am »
Hello all,

I have an old HP33120A with a bad rotary encoder. Does anyone know what encoder can be used as a replacement? I would think that it's not worth the effort to try to clean the existing one.

Thanks in advance

If the contacts are not damaged, it is often worth having a go rejuvinating the rotary encoder. It may involve pulling the encoder apart. I have had success with this 2 part Deoxit products:

but you may be able to find an alternative locally.

I had the same problem with my 33120A and Rigol DS1052E scope and both have worked for years without a problem since. I cannot remember the specifics of repairing the 33120A - sorry.

Bourns makes a rotary encoder with same footprint.
The part number is: PEC16-4215F-N0024
I have used a few of these successfully.

Thank you both of you. I will give it a quick clean, and add a couple of the ones that HighVoltage suggests to my next order.

Again, thanks.
