Identify this diode please
« on: February 20, 2017, 08:33:59 pm »
Hi!

I am about to repair a Self-levelling front axle suspension controller. On the pcb there are two shorted diodes - plus a few other blown components - and I can not find them on the web. Picture is taken with my phone trough the eyepiece of a microscope, you bet I had a hard time to fine tune the angle of the camera...  ::) The package, which can not be seen in my photo, is a DO-201AD. The outline dimensions are: dia. 0.210 (5.3) and length of body 0.375 (9.5).
Any clue?

Thanks in advance

The 'KE18A' indicates that the component is an 18 volt unidirectional TVS (Transient Voltage Suppressor) diode, and the package dimensions are consistent with one capable of handling 1500W peak pulse power. Hence, the generic part number would be '1.5KE18A'.

A number of different semiconductor manufacturers produce those diodes:

Thanks a lot David and JFJ!  :-+

Yupp! This clear things up and it is then, most probably, a TVS. I had a closer look at the PCB and these two TVS clamps both feeds on the board. One is continuous, battery voltage, and the second from the ignition (15) so of course it is an effective protection. The other components - High side Power Switch BTS612N1 controlling the hydraulic valves and a capacitor - where thankfully quiet easily found.

Thanks again to you both!!  :)
