indentifying chip in Vaillant ecoTEC plus VCW 346
« on: February 14, 2016, 06:50:05 pm »
Hello people,

First of all, I have to admit something: I'm kind of a newbie in the world of electronics. I wasn't sure if I should post it here or in the newbie-section since it is about a repair.
Now to my actual problem: the main PCB on my Vaillant ecoTEC plus VCW 346 came in contact with water, which was overlooked when powering on the machine.
The result: it won't turn on and there's a chip visible with the top completely blown off. (see attachment) Without the top it's impossible for me to tell what chip it was, so I can't find a replacement for it.
The part number of the PCB (002009250610130416R) doesn't return any search results.
Any tips for how I could find / replace it?

Thanks in advance,
Thomas Avé

Hi Tomas,

Looking to the position on the PCB it could be an optocoupler.
Why spend money I don't have on things I don't need to impress people I don't like?

Not an optocoupler, that is to the left. A variant of a Topswitch, but we would need a better picture of the top and bottom of the area of the board to guess which one of hundreds it might be.

Here are some more pictures.
My best guess at the moment would be an amplifier, similar to this one: TLC271CP

Hi Thomas,

Check with a local seller/plumber who might have one of those boards - maybe phone up a local distributor. They're not all bad  ;) They might just give you the name.

I doubt OP is still waiting for an answer but I have one. The exact same chip blew up on the same PCB on my boiler so I can add this here for the record.
Vaillant ecoTech pro 24 VUW GB 246/3-3
The PCBs appear to fit a range of boilers. I had to adjust settings via the front panel to configure it to my specific boiler.
For no apparent reason my boiler stopped working. I noticed the same chip burnt chip in OP's photo. I ordered a replacement PCB (ebay, refurbished, £40, delivered in 2 days!)
The chip on the replacement is:
ICE 2A365
It is part of the SMPS and is connected to the opto.
It appears that electro C4 is shorted so that may be the root cause of the problem.
I am fairly confidant that replacing those two components will fix MY problem. You, dear reader are on your own.
Good luck.
Yes, I made a new account and answered a 8 year old question just to add a bit of knowledge to the world.
