Hi guys,
I recently hunted a Keithley 2000 (complete package including a 2000-SCAN board, all cable & docs) for a nice price, as it had a defekt, I managed to repair.
It was build early in 2014 and is in a near-to-new shape, except of the display lens (the green front lid).
Attached photo shows the condition as I received it, having some deep scratches (yelllow marked).

As tool is worth to invest some additional money, I contacted Keithley/Agilent to check the cost for replacement part:
PN: 2000-304B, price 44,- EURO net. Unfortunately the minimum order limit is 55,- EURO.
  • Anyone interesting in a combined order (to be best located in Germany)

  • or somebody able to recommend a must-have part for the K2000, worth to order to archieve the minimum order limit?

In any case I will try to refurbish the scratchy lid using the tricks given at:

After, Stickers removed with xylene and Melamine foam sponges (Magic erasers). Main panel was very lightly wet sanded with a very fine sanding sponge (type used for fingernails) just enough to get rid of fine scratches. Then the paint was polished with Mequires PlastX to restore the shine.

Or does one have a better trick?

You can try polishing the scratches out with proper plastic polish. I have used it before on scratches with excellent results.

@ TheSteve
Will give 'm a try, as the glass is runined already, so could not become worse.
Thanks

I've had good success with Displex http://www.ebay.com/itm/270846108772
Though it won't remove deep scratches, as you then would need some polish with more grit, it will round the deep scratch so it is less noticeable.

Try sandpaper first - 600 grit, then 1000, 1500 and finally toothpaste with soft cloth. I did this to a Fluke meter with deep scratches and it came out like new  :)

Try Novus plastic polish. It's a 3 part kit, and I've used it to good effect on scratched LCD screens.

You'll need fine sandpaper to get out the deeper scratches, but Novus will do a good job of removing the haze left behind.

Novus are the products I use as well.

Novus plastic polish arrived from the US.
Removed the deepscraches with 2000 sand paper, than finished with Novus #3, #2 and finnaally #1.
Looks like new.

  • Lots of engineer-tweakable parts inside!
Nicely done. Thanks for the follow up on the outcome.
