Laptop does not start
« on: December 14, 2016, 08:49:26 pm »
Laptop(Asus model F5RL)  does not start(although it is  connected to mains),
if there is a battery inserted.
If battery is removed (laptop  also  connected to mains), the laptop starts.
Any clue where can be a problem?
Thanks

It could be a fault in the battery, have you tried with another battery?

Have you tried inserting the battery while booted the BIOS? It might tell you if the battery needs replacement. At least that's what the some Dells and Lenovos do. They won't start with a dead or missing battery.
Anyway, I wouldn't go out buying a new battery, an Atom convertible has just as much (or more, on the GPU side) grunt as a Core2Duo T and costs as much as a replacement battery.

I had a HP that wouldn't start with the battery in, replaced the battery, worked a treat!

Battery is good besides the laptop was tested with different batteries. The  same problem.
If I remove  battery then Asus F5RL starts.
If I insert the battery after BIOS started, then laptops works OK
Any idea where is a problem?
Thanks

Does the system report battery presence and state after you start it and insert the battery?

It might be worth seeing if there are any BIOS updates available.

Since laptop batteries are "smart", there's some I2C comms involved, and if something's screwy in that department, that could be your problem.

Is battery charging in such case? Is laptop still working if you leave the battery in but disconnect the charger?
