LG Home Cinema/Bluray Player Fault
« on: April 10, 2018, 08:00:19 pm »
Hi folks,

I've only recently gotten in to electronics repair so I'm not too sure where to start with this one.

Our LG Home Cinema/Bluray player (model number BH7430) has developed a number of faults. The surround speakers still work fine. As does the HDMI output, USB ports etc. However, the Wifi module doesn't work, neither does the Bluetooth nor the disc tray.

I can provide pictures of the PCB if needed, but nothing seems damaged at all.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to where to begin to troubleshoot this? I've tried removing the disc tray to see if that was somehow causing an issue with the other 2, but this didn't help.

Any help is much appreciated!

Which occurred first? The tray problem or WiFi/Bluetooth problem? Doubtful they are related. The tray is likely a mechanical issue. The WiFi/Bluetooth possibly power, or chip related.

I'm not 100% sure which happened first.

Though I'd don't think it's a mechanical issue with the drive as it's motor is connected via flat flex, and when telling it to open the drive the voltage on the pins doesn't change which makes me thing there's nothing telling the drive to open, if that makes sense?

No power to tray motor. Sounds possibly like PS. Especially if that same supply is used for BT and WiFi.
Check all supplies. Likely a 5V issue. Possibly a gone south 5V regulator.
