started few months ago
tv would work good for about 45 minutes of watching netflix consistently
all other devices are connected to the router with no problems

i reset tv updated firmware went into diagnostic mode etc
tried everything i know

wifi drops and tv shows no available networks
doesnt even detect any wifi networks, shows that wifi is off  where i cant even get to network list

i turn it off and let it sit for few hours and it works again

im assuming its something to do with network card?
its just out of warranty too. which is crap because it wasnt a cheap tv.
this is so far third LG tv that crapped out on us.
i keep buying them because no other company offers the remote like LG unfortunately samsung remote is still old school with buttons not a pointer

If you were just using normal tv and not wifi, does the wifi still go out after about the same amount of time?

Have you tried heat and cool around the wifi module?

Going by what you have described, I strongly suspect you have a dry solder.
Hopefully there are no BGA's on the wifi board...

Dry nonsense myth, actual solder joint fail under BGA is quiet rare.  Chip fail is order of magnitude more common. And all those who's first fix it to reflow everything, should be publicly shamed.

Use heat and cool to confirm. If heat and cool has no effect, then it is no dry joint.

Brilliant, you are a perfect "smart tv" target market. "smart tv" is build around te idea of you rebuying same thing over an over as the old one is artificially made obsolete. Buy/build roku/dedicated media PC and any normal TV next time.

I use an old lcd LG 'dumb'-tv.

I've seen smart ones and i.still prefer using external device. And if it gets obsolete, sluggish or faulty i change it for very few bucks...

I haven't had any experience with other brands of smart tv but from what I have seen this appears to be an inherent problem with the LG's going back many years and models.

After trying numerous routers, settings and configuration changes I ended up hard wiring the tv to the router and even then it still regularly drops out and reverts back to tv mode for no apparent reason and won't connect to the network again until after a restart.

A Google search for "LG WiFi Problems" will return a concerning number of results all with different suggestions and solutions, mine was to run a network cable. I wouldn't buy another LG product again as I found their service and support severely lacking.

it doesnt drop connection
seems like wireless card simply shuts down after about 45 minutes and then turns back on some time later

i would say it does depend on the how heavy the traffic is
i think it lasts abit longer when i put pandora on vs watching netflix

If you flex the wifi board does it fail?
Also, use a hair dryer and see if you can make it fail faster.
How hot does the Ic on the wifi module get after 45 minutes of running?

Photo's?

you are right. i took my tv apart and turns out its a separate WIFI module. a very small separate pcb.

but heres the thing.
1 it started when i plugged in the optical cable that was pressed against the wall. which flexed the main board a little and thats when the problem started increasingly more frequent.
at that time tv was about 1.5 years old and had no issues
2 it is dependent on the bandwidth load. so if i listen to pandora it works without problem
if i watch youtube or netflix it shuts down depending on the network load
3 i also noticed that lately it struggles to shut down and takes extra few seconds for the red stand by light to go back on and i hear a click

so now im really not sure if its the wifi module or main board or pwoer supply board that is faulty..

what can i do to troubleshoot it?
i really cant afford to take it to the repair shop. this is the 3rd tv we had to buy in last 5 years and  honestly were not taht baller to be replacing tvs every year lol

i took the main board out and inspected the solder points under a big mag lens with a light. and only saw one cold solder on the actual optical connector but nowhere else.
i will probably bake the main board tomorrow and see if that works

but im open to suggestions on how to find the faulty part or at least which board might be causing trouble

when wifi goes away the tv doesnt even detect the wifi adapter
it tells me to enable the wifi adapter when theres no button to do so
when i restart after about 5-6 times it starts working and works usually for 20 minutes of youtube and then i restart again and it works for another 20 minutes etc
i reset it and went into the maintenance menu to change baud rate to recommended by some people to improve wifi but nothing

"Smart" TVs are fundamentally defective by design. It makes far more sense to connect an inexpensive, upgradeable streaming device to any ordinary TV than to buy a TV with a built in cheap, slow, half baked device that will be obsolete a decade or more before the rest of the TV is. I still cannot understand what sort of sucker buys into these things.

Do you have any photos of the wireless board?
It might need a heatsink added to help it keep cool.
I would also check the supply voltage to the module and make sure it is consistent.

By the sounds of it, the extra traffic on the wifi is causing the processor to get too hot and eventually goes into protection mode and shuts down.

Depending on wifi module model you could get replacement for as low as $5
