Junk science?  You mean you can't blow up an image from a 640x480 camera and "enhance" the less than one pixel image into a perfect likeness of the perpetrator?

yea you can find some "interesting stuff". The like of star treck usually get it spot on, they make it sound belivable but yea other programs are probably less equiped.

On the other hand anyone ever read any of the evil genious books ? many of the projects involge generating HT voltages starting from the mains and instructions are a bit patchy, needless to mention some of the "mumbo jumbo" explanations that often sound like science fiction.

You missed the episode where they even moved the viewing angle of an image to look behind an obstacle in the image so they could see an otherwise hidden car license plate.

I don't think he's completely making up how he fixes computers.

The PCI card shows any BIOS error.

The ESR meter is used to find bad caps which are often the source of problems, especially a few years ago when the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capacitor_plague hit. He seems to just use the scope to read the ESR values.

Those would be the first things I'd check if I were trying to fix up a computer that I didn't have replacement parts for.

Randomly probing the motherboard with an analog scope is probably pretty useless though. The most you'd find out is that you need to replace the motherboard.

Number Uno has to be Dr Who. Can still remember as a youth (16 ish) trying to identify parts of the tardis, vacuum cleaner hoses, air duct and my favorite a MEM three phase metal clad isolator.
