More memory on a Garmin Gpsmap 62
« on: May 24, 2018, 04:50:47 pm »
Hi folks,

I really my old Garmin handheld, but there is a big problem. The Gpsmap 62 only has 1.7GB of storage and most maps these days are bigger(for my needs).

The good news are I found a way to get rid of this problem. They use a simple emmc from Samsung. Part Number: Samsung KMAKG0000M-B998.
There is a drop in replacement with more capacity Part Number: Samsung KMCMG0000M-B998

I couldn't find it on the internet.
Does anybody know, where I can these chips and if I maybe can replace them with a newer version of samsung emmc?
A datasheet would really be helpfull.

Thank you in advance

"Old" GPSMap 62 with "only" 1.7GB  ::)
I still have an old GPSMap 60CS. I'll save you the trouble of looking it up: it has 56 MB of memory. That's 0.054 GB. Good luck with your upgrade.

its a 10 year old flash chip, good louck finding one :)
if its anything like old TomToms you can just solder SD card in place of MMC memory, or even SD card holder

Can’t you put an SD card in a Garmin GPSMAP 62... I mean ... straight into it’s micro SD card slot underneath the batteries?

If your model has no SD card, or maps can’t be stored there, doesn’t the internal flash also contain firmware, so you’d have to at least program the loader part to it?

Even hacking like the previous posts, have you considered the "OS" can be locked to the 1.7gb limit ???

Is it the 62s or 62st ???

for 62s: https://forums.garmin.com/forum/into-sports/garmin-connect/the-water-cooler/12210-

It may not be what you want to hear but have you considered buying a good used Garmin 64s on Ebay?
