Mystery Resistor Marked CR W ED - Who Made It?
« on: March 30, 2017, 02:28:25 pm »
I have a Simpson 379 battery tester made in the late 1960s that has what appear to be some precision metal film resistors, but I'm not sure. The resistors are sky blue, and have the following symbol:
___  ___
CR W ED

The top line connects to the letter W on either side, but I can't draw it here. I could post a picture though.

Maybe Welwyn?

Their current logo looks different, but it probably has changed since 1960 and they print W on most of their resistors.

Maybe Welwyn?

Interesting. Your comment made me search for Welwyn components logo, which eventually brought me to a page with historical information about the company. Seems that they associated with Worcester Royal Porcelain in WWII and eventually became a subsidiary of them. And guess what, one of the logo's of this porcelain company looks a lot like a W with the top lines. I don't think that is a coincidence  ;)
