New contact burnishing tools found
« on: January 19, 2018, 03:51:45 pm »
I just discovered tweezer-style contact burnishers, which might come handy for cleaning/restoring severely corroded or degraded contacts. They seem to be suitable for application on pin contacts in single and multipole connectors. As stated by the mfg., they are intended for flat contacts, but I think that use on round pins would be possible with a bit of dexterity.

In EU sold under the label of 'KS-Tools', Article # KS TOOLS   118.0030
For example here:

This looks a bit heavy duty, for very large contactors and relays.

I use a piece of paper. Most small switch and relay contacts are merely plated.

I use a piece of paper.

I have a 'real' burnishing tool (uhhh... somewhere... LOL) but have also done the piece of paper trick with excellent results.  Dipping it in some isopropyl is helpful.  Fairly stiff non-glossy paper, like a strip cut from a business card, works very well.  The paper can turn completely black so it's clearly getting a lot of gunk off.

They look handy for some work  :-+  but way too big for me

When the specialty tools fail or don't quite 'get in there' I always end up resorting to scissored fine sandpaper customizations, tweezers, tape, rough porous paper/cardboard, contact fluid

hope, impatience and foul language  :horse:  |O

to get stubborn switches, sockets and blackened contacts working again  :phew:
