Samsung UE50ES5505K horizontal lines
« on: September 23, 2015, 08:35:24 am »
Hello everyone.

I was dumpster diving the other day and found this 50 inch Samsung smart TV. Since it was out of course it has a problem. The problem is that it ghosts in the bottom part of the screen. You can see it in this video: https://youtu.be/fVy9f3y-RK0. I already tried to clean the connectors with contact spray and refit them but still no luck.

It has this AUO T-Con board.

If I disconnect the right side ribbon going to panel the left side of the panel works just fine.
I was thinking it might be a clock issue and the multiplexers don't decode the right line at the right time. Or the panel is gone and then it will just go back to the dumpster.

What else could it be? Anyone have seen something like this before?

Thank you.

Look for bad electrolytic capacitors of the power supply.

The caps was the first thing to look for. They all seem fine.

What about connecting "the right side ribbon" to "the left side connector".
If you are skilled in soldering, try resolder parts on that T-Con.

I am a power electronics engineer but I have had very bad time in my live and I also worked as a field service technician repairing LCD and plasma's TV LG and Panasonic to earn my live.

We had all the boards with us (NB: in working condition) and we only had to change the boards to find what board was defective.

It does not seem to be a panel defect, what very good news is.
Try to find another TV of the same model but with another defect so you can make a good TV with 2 defective ones.

I already tried to change the ribbons from one side to the other and it is still the same.
I had it with me at work because we have hot air soldering station and all kind of things here and my colleagues also said that most likely is not the panel.

I also tried cooling the T-Con board with the spray and it did change something in the way the lines appeared. The problem is that I cannot reflow the board as the hinges for the ribbons will melt (I tried in a corner with the hot air soldering station). So I have put the board on our IR heating plate to keep the board at 100 degrees C and gave it some hot air on the parts that could have broken solder joints. Still no luck.

I finally found the T-Con board on e-bay and got one for 15$. Waiting for it to arrive next week.

I'll keep you posted with the result.
And thank you all for the replies.

Hi all

I finally got the board, changed it, and still no luck. Now I really don't know what to do with it. I am thinking that is the chip on flex or something like that.
