requesting OCZ Vertex 3 SSD unbricking assistance
« on: December 30, 2017, 10:24:58 pm »
I have a OCZ Vertex 3 120GB SSD which is not recognized by the BIOS. When powered on, a red and green inside the drive are both visibly lit. The red LED indicates a fault with the controller.

I would like to recover data off this drive. First, is there any way to unbrick this? Opening up the drive, I notice two I/O interfaces. The first appears to be a bi-directional serial interface. The second is a JTAG port.

The controller is a Sandforce SF-2281. OCZ recommended upgrading the firmware on drive. Given that the SATA interface is bricked, does anyone know how to upgrade the firmware through either of the other two interfaces on the board.

This was a very interesting thread here but it seems to apply only to the Vertex 2: https://www.eevblog.com/forum/repair/ocz-vertex-2-ssd-firmware/25/?PHPSESSID=nvri7q54o9fbaoutink884lgjl
