SCR Thyristor Question? Replacement & Cross?
« on: November 18, 2014, 01:31:20 am »
I need to replace a couple Littlefuse S4010LS2 SCR's I do have a tube of MCR310-10 SCR's not sure if they would be an acceptable / comparable replacement?  I know in the littlefuse cross chart the MCR310-6 crosses to S4010LS2 but dont list a cross for a -10. Would going from 400V to 800V on the Peak Repetitive Forward and Reverse Blocking Voltage be to big of an issue?

The MCR310 does not specify t_q so I presume it's intended for line frequency switching only.  If that's what the application is, it shouldn't be too bad.  It also has a very sensitive gate, comparable with the -S2.  dV/dt is also inferior, so if the application requires snubbing, it will likely require a more aggressive value.

T3sl4co1l, Thanks

This SCR keeps popping after some time it seems to be the weak link!.  So I was thinking of bumping up either the voltage or the amps or both but even in the past never messed with Thyristors except for just some rework in the cable tv industry so learning about them!

The MCR310-10 SCR's were a standard part that failed in Cable TV Head End Amps stuff I used to repair over a decade ago. They were such a common failure we installed 3 pin terminal strips plugged them in and screwed them down!  But the engineers at scientific Atlanta just supplied the upgrade parts list when we had the amp open we did the work.
