Smartphone Touch Screen Replacement
« on: August 02, 2018, 03:32:26 pm »
Hello Everyone,

My son dropped its phone, the glass on the screen cracked.
It is a Xiaomi Mi Max I phone.
The phone works just fine, and we put transparent packing tape on the screen as a temporary fix.
(The touch function still works!)

We got a replacement digitizer, the glass part of the screen.
However, the the glass and the LCD screen seems to be fused together, there does not seem to be an easy way to remove the cracked glass.
I heard some people using a heat gun...

Any advise on how to remove the glass without damaging/destroying the LCD part of the screen?

Thanks, Peter

Hi Doug,

Thanks for the link!

Looks like this guy replaced both the LCD and the glass, he used some adhesive tape in an "X" pattern.
That would not work for just the glass!

I did fond another video where they show the heat gun approach:

So it is doable.
Just curious what kind of industrial glue did they use to secure the top and bottom edges?

Thanks again, Peter
