USSR Military Laser RangeFinder To Repair !!!!

Hi Everyone ... i want a help in knowing how this thing work (in the circuit level electronically) to know how to repair it myself ... i know that it cost so much but i want to repair it myself ...  ;D ... So this is a USSR Military Laser RangeFinder that i found it in the dark market >:D
So this is my questions :
1- How to Know The Voltage that this will work on it ??? Cause it work on Military Batteries and i don't know how much voltage does this provide
2- I think the Capacitor is Not Working
3- In the images below i want to know what does every circuit or module do ???^-^
4- Could i put the laser transmitter in Arduino ??? Or could i make with this parts a new rangefinder but with arduino or raspberry Pi ... This RangeFinder work on the analog system how could i make a new one on digital system with Arduino ???
5- Enyone how know anything about this device : please share with us your experience !!! and Thx !!!

Be careful with the laser and better get some 1064 nm laser googles before attempting any repairs.
AFAIK these units use rather powerful (Q-switched) Nd-YAG lasers.
You can use any normal camera to see NIR radiation.

WTF, that thing is labeled in arab language, => salvaged parts from Syria or Yemen civil war?

Looks like an interesting piece of equipment, made in Yugoslavia with American parts and Arabic markings ..  ???
Wonder what the story behind that is .. :)

Looks similar to a "RLD-M84"

Apparently 12V, so put 12V on that battery plug and see, what happens. But don't forget to buy some laser googles before attempting that.

You're right, not Russian, made in Slovenia, then Yugoslav republic...

Yugoslavia was selling lots equipment in friendly Arab countries..

An technology was as you can see here, a mix of domestic technology, some Wester, some Soviet... Whatever worked well..
And not being part of soviet block, pretty much all western technology was available. ISKRA was making Digital VAX minis , under license, had very advance robotics research etc..  For instance, in Yugoslavia they had MIG 21 at time. MIG 21 had very bad ejection seats (they called them "the neckbreakers"). So Yugoslav air force replaced them with USA made Martin-Baker seats..

There was a lot of mixed tech like that then..

It will presumably be a Q-switched neodymium YAG laser, flashlamp pumped.

The big HV capacitor is part of the pulse-forming network that drives the flashlamp.

There's a lot of literature out there on the SSY1 rangefinder, and that's probably a good place to start learning since this seems similar.

Thx for Your help ... i was trying to repair it without glasses  :( ... my friend buy it from a black market in the borders of Syria ...  8)

If it is YAG laser then you need to be careful. The wavelength there can be harmful, make sure you have the glasses with the right filter.

That is a laser range finder built in former Yugoslavia, for battle tank that was built for Yugoslav army. Tank designation was M-84, built under license from USSR T-72 model, and improved locally with western electronics and ballistic computer.

Analog Devices supplied some parts under special end user certification for, at that time, communist country.

Arabic markings means that this unit was built in 1990 and was destined for export to Kuwait. Due to war in former Yugoslavia some units never got there and were"used" in local war, however first batch reached its destination and is still used in Kuwait armored forces.

Yep, it will probably not burn skin, but can take an eye very, very easily.

Laser engineers tend to have a warning sign up somewhere in the lab reading "Do not look into laser with remaining eye", this is not overstating the case with Q switched things, they are scary shit and there is a reason nobody uses 1064nm lasers for ranging anymore.
