Visonic PowerMax alarmsystem - Reset to factory default.
« on: November 19, 2015, 07:02:40 pm »
I've got an older PowerMax alarm, used for a couple of years, but moved to a new location where there was a security system allready, so it had been put to sleep in 5-6 years. However, now i have a use for it, and decided to power it up. Changed a 1000 uf cap, as it was bulging and the alarm runs well now.
But i can't remember the installer code. A look in the manual says to power it up with a jumper on the RESET pins, but it does not seem to do anything, other than default the system volume, etc. My two remote controls still works, even after a reset.

Anyone have a clue, where to start?

I've attached an overview picture, if needed I can take more shots. The two PIC's are Microchip PIC17C756A.
There is a RS232 header, and a PROG header. Is there any chance to get in that way?

Still looking for a solution, have been googling and googling  |O

Anyway, there is a 4 pin programming header - Is there some sort of "default" programmers, that may have a chance to talk to the device? I'm really on deep water here, but is JTAG like ir. OBD in cars, or?

I'm sorry for bumping it - But the relative simple question is; Can I buy some sort of JTAG/Other programmer/reader, and give it a go? Or do I need special hardware for that chip?

It would be nice to have a universal unit - Well if it works, then OK, if it don't OK - I'm willing to spend a ~100-150$ just to have the programmer, maybe for other projects. What do folks in here use for that purpose?

Thanks :)

Sorry for late reply, but have you tried http://powermax-alarm.co.uk/cms.php?id_cms=8
Q  How do I reset the Powermax Complete, Express and Pro control panel to Factory defaults?
A.  Occasionally, the panel software may get corrupted or you may get completely lost in the programming sequences that it is easier and quicker to return the panel to its original factory built state.  The factory defaults can be restored by performing a RESET as follows.
Remove all power (mains and battery) from the panel.
Remove the panel from its backplate place face down on a cushioned surface.  The Express needs removal of the internal cover.
Identify the two left hand jumper pins marked DEF and fit a jumper across them.
Restore the battery power - this will reset the control panel.
Remove the battery power, and remove the link from the DEF jumper.
Refit the panel and restore the mains and battery power.
Q I cannot access the installer menu.
Visonic have failed to mention in the installation manual that the user code (default 1111) has to be entered before the installer code can be entered.

If you need to bite, use PCBite!
