2.5W Coherent Novus 2000 argon laser teardown
« on: August 30, 2016, 01:26:43 am »
Here's a Coherent medical laser, used for eye procedures. Found this for $50 at the scrap yard along with a 60W CO2 laser.

Reading Sam's Laser FAQ, the tube seems to be similar to a Coherent Innova 60, but not quite the same. Since the machine is dead, if anyone has specs for the tube I'd be greatful, as I'm sure we all want to see it run.

If anyone wants the tube and can pay for shipping or pick up in the Vancouver, BC area, let me know.

Cheers!
David

Nice video.... I made one myself if you like to watch it (Youtube "Play with Junk")

I thought you may be interested in the Novus maintenance manual which I have in PDF format. It's too big to attach here but if you give me another email address, I will send it.

Greetings Chris

Fascinating video!  I really appreciate the explanations.  Looking forward to reading the discussions here and hopefully seeing your successful efforts to get it to fire up.   :-+

Hello Chris!

I'am a Biomedical engineer from Argentina and need the the Novus maintenance manual to repair one.
Thanks in advance!
Here, in Argentina is very difficult to get medical equipment manuals.

This is because he is a new member to this forum and he has to post a minimum 5 postings here to lift this restriction.

Had the same issue some days before with another member.

If using an oscilloscope (or any type of test equipment which plugs into a wall outlet), use a
ground isolation plug between the oscilloscope power plug and wall socket (or some other
method which will isolate the oscilloscope chassis grounding).

Mikes e stuff: I don't know about the particular laser referred to, but many argon-ion lasers run directly off the mains without an isolation transformer and so just about everything inside the unit is hot relative to the chassis.  With the poor efficiency of a 2.5 W argon-ion laser, that'd probably be a big transformer.  I recall using a 15 mW unit that drew at least a KW.

Cheers,

I know that - it was the really bad advice to float the scope I was remarking on
