4mm sheath binding post
« on: May 31, 2017, 12:47:04 am »
Does anybody make a safety/sheathed banana jack binding post?  The type that are on a solderless breadboard, but a safety jack instead of a normal banana jack.

You mean a 5-way binding post with safety jack? Or a chassis-mount safety banana jack?
I would say you won't find both- because there's no safe way to tie in/bind flying leads, so what was the point.

good point.  in theory you could have the flying leads attached first, then you can plug and unplug banana.  but i guess this product isn't really wanted by the market.

You mean like these right?
They exist. Good luck finding any for sale. (if you do, let me know! I want some!)

I looked again at Pomona, Mueller, Neutrik; Most are for loudspeakers. I think they are custom for power supply manufacturers.
Found these on Aliexpress but not really shrouded.

I believe they double as binding posts but am not 100% certain.

Sorry to say that they're not, they are just designed to be mostly mounted in front of the panel.
Anybody got a syringe I can use to squeeze the magic smoke back into this?

bump.

No one has a source for these?  Looking around at power supplies, even fairly cheap ones, these are a common part.

Do you care if its actually insulated, or do you just want the shielded plugs to fit?

This looks like there could be space on the sides: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/M4X36-pure-copper-terminal-4mm-banana-plug-20A-binding-post-Banana-plug-connector/32803471963.html
But might not be long enough.

I would say you won't find both- because there's no safe way to tie in/bind flying leads, so what was the point.

Found the Multi-Contact (Staubli) SPK4, which has an insulated cover over a bare wire insertion port.  So, you can't come into contact with the bare metal of the binding post, but still you have to insert a bare wire so not sure how useful the insulation around the post itself is.

$10 ea wow

Nice find. I will try them out. A shame they are only available via digikey in EU. Or have you found others?

Other resellers? No. But at least it’s DK, since they ship to Europe quickly, with a low free shipping threshold, and customs pre-cleared.
