60-Watt Replacement Iron Identification (Cat# 6400266)
« on: October 02, 2018, 11:14:51 pm »
I have a radio shack digital soldering station. I want to replace the iron but I'm having trouble figuring out which one will be compatible. The manual says it is 28v/60w. The iron connects to the station using a 5 PIN 180° DIN connector.

I'm measuring about 12Ω between pins 1 & 4 (black and white wires) and 1Ω between pins 5 & 3 (red and yellow wires).
The green wire is earth ground and connects to the metal part of the iron case.

Would this work if I replaced the connector, or can someone help identify one that would work?

I think the soldering station I have is an older version.  Mine has a twist lock connector.   Maybe it screws in.  Sorry I can't be much help, but:

The version I have is a rebrand.   This is a link to it: https://reverb.com/item/15290537-radio-shack-digital-soldering-station-64-053?gclid=Cj0KCQjwrszdBRDWARIsAEEYhrd4deoUdUamT5MPk2zcqqxfruNi8ohKzP0_n_CnANStblveMQq-NHwaAtHDEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds&pla=1

The iron you found might be for it.  I have seen the same device sold under different brands.  Yours probably is sold as different brands too.

On a side note: I love the one I have.  Does the job well.  The three presets are awesome.

Two words: 936 clone.

From reading through https://www.eevblog.com/forum/reviews/genuine-vs-fake-hakko-936-ceramic-heater-a1321/ it seems you may have the thermocouple-style sensor "A1322"  element.

I bought an iron that claimed to use an A1322 heating element but it gave a sensor error. I ordered an A1322 from aliexpress and replaced the element in the iron I bought and it's working great now. Thanks for helping identify the correct heating element!

Which iron did you end up buying? I’m in the same boat as you
