Advice needed for Power Supply and Desoldering and Isolation
« on: November 30, 2017, 02:57:29 am »
Will keep it simple. Seeing there is so much 'fake' rip offs getting around a novice like myself is likely to get stung and waste money.

So, I am after advice 'where' and 'what' to purchase for:
1. Electric Vacuum Desoldering station.
2. Isolation Transformer
3. Bench Power Supply(s), Not sure on the voltage/amp ranges needed, I have several pinball machines I have collected over the years that need some TLC on the boards as well wanting to play around more with DIY projects, specially solar stuff and possibly Lithium battery projects as well.

Cost is a big thing being a pensioner and need to look for low price range stuff. (hobby level gear).
Yes I did read and search etc. and the more I read the more confused I get.

It's a bit of a shot in the dark for others when so little information is supplied. Can you tell us what you've looked at and what's confusing you, what your workshop currently contains, what projects other than pinball machines you might want to tackle and why you need the indicated supplies?

I have been very satisfied with the Zhongdi ZD 985 desoldering station. Here in the US they cost about $150 and are marketed under several aliases. Consumables are reasonable too. For my own shop I have modified a POWERVAR conditioner into an isolation transformer. For bench experimentation a two channel 30 volt 3 amp power supply should work well for you. If you have the time you can build one using parts and pieces. Here is a picture of the desoldering station. The bench supply in the picture was built for $35 using salvaged parts and DC to DC converters and meters from China.
