Agilent U1232A repair - help needed
« on: February 01, 2016, 04:15:58 pm »
Hi,

My Agilent U1232A worked perfectly for few years but I have made a mistake yesterday. I have touched high voltage (about 3kv) yesterday with black  (COM) probe only. There was a spike and DMM doesn't work anymore. It shows unrealistic numbers, i.e. 54Mohm when I select resistance or 0.23A when DC current is selected etc... Any idea about that? Are there any specific parts to check or it is time to look for new one... I do not have any schematics about this meter.

Thanks,

Robert

Clear focused pictures of the pcb (both sides) will help us help you.

Your gas discharge tube might be fried?  It should read infinite resistance with another meter.  If it doesn't read infinite resistance, remove it and see if the meter works.

Another thing to check are your PTC (should be around 1k ohm).

Thanks a lot for you input..

I will check discharge tubes resistance in the evening, it looks there are two of those.

Will check PTC but I need to locate it first.
