BGA inspection mirror
« on: October 04, 2016, 08:00:02 am »
Has anyone seen somewhere easy to buy something like this?  Or even ideas for DIY?

As the new owner of an AmScope setup, I think a mirror like that could be really useful.

A neat idea.

You just need a first-surface mirror with the bottom edge ground down to 45'. You can often find first surface mirrors (front silvered) mirrors in scrap cameras (viewfinder) and laser printer optics. They do scratch easily though.
Best Regards, Chris

Ahh, "first surface mirror", that's the phrase I was missing.

Doesn't look like they're "easy" to buy (as in I need to order internationally), but if one believes what they read on the net, it shouldn't be hard to remove the back coating off a normal mirror with acetone and use that.

Might try with some cheap acrylic mirror first...

BGA inspection mirror alongside BGA allows for 90 degree inspection into BGA solder joints. Good for inspection J-leads, connectors, and 90 degree view of fine pitch. However, I want  suggestion other than from BEST BGA Inspection at http://www.solder.net/services/bga-x-ray-capabilities/

There are many commercial borescopes with 90-degree heads. Depending on field of view they could be a cheaper way to see under BGAs.
