Favorite test clip leads/minigrabbers
« on: October 16, 2017, 09:46:55 pm »
Hey everyone!

What's everyone's favorite brand of test clips for various power ranges? I'd like to make a collection of banana to minigrabber cables but some minigrabbers I've run into seem to be more robust than others. Any favorites? Digikey part numbers would be appreciated.

Hi,
For general purpose work I like genuine e-z-hook cables. I like the XR size. They are quite substantial.

I have been very happy with the quality. Really well made. Expensive in my opinion worth the money.

Digikey number: 461-1159-ND

For other leads I like to make my own.

    Mueller BU60 clip (Digikey 314-1033-ND)

    Insulator (Digikey 314-1038-ND) or (Digikey 314-1037-ND )

Banana Plug Johnson (Cinch) Digikey J145-ND

High voltage flexible test lead wire (surplus)

Very specific, again expensive, but very good.

Hi,

Here are a few more pictures of my favorite leads.

This first picture shows a Pomona clip (Red) and the E-Z-Hook (Blue). The leads on the E-Z-Hook are more substantial without being a problem.

Here is a clip lead to banana plug:

Here are pictures of the components used to make it:

Hi,

Here is a picture of a couple of big clips that I found at a Hamfest. They are Mueller 100 Amp clips part number 21c:

I have shown a regular clip to give you an idea of the scale. They are made from solid copper.

For 1.27mm pitch components, I like the Tektronix 206-0364-* grabbers. But nothing that size will be very robust, nor suitable for substantial power.
There are lies, damned lies, statistics - and ADC/DAC specs.
