Dave has 2 soldering irons and of course I have to get one too (
proof) O0
My workbench is pretty cramped so my primary requirement is compactness but it still has to have temperature control and be of reasonable quality (i.e. worth what you pay for).
Scouring around yielded a few options:
1) Goot PX-501 / PX-601 Mini Soldering Stations (Goot
link and
link, respectively)
2) BK950D (
eBay)
3) DIY T12 soldering iron controller kit (
eBay)
The Goot PX-501 / PX-601 station is the more expensive option but I'm not sure of the reliability about going thru the other 2. With the DIY T12, I still have to look for a power supply and enclosure. And also, both are using T12 tips which is different than the one that my first station has (Hakko 900M series tips). The PX-501/PX-601 seems to be using similar tips so this is another plus factor for it.
I'm ready to jump with the Goot PX-601 but I've been so used to trusting what people say or use on the internets that it makes me a bit worried because I could not find much information on it.
I had a Goot iron a long time ago albeit without temperature control, just a high-low switch because that was the only thing I could afford (we had very limited options from where I grew up and online research/global shopping was non-existent back then). I have to admit I was quite happy with it and it served me well and lasted for as long as I can remember so I think Goot is a safe choice.
Anyone has thoughts on this or better yet first-hand experience with Goot PX-501/PX-601 station? Or any other suggestions?
