Hakko T12 controller with JBC T245 iron
« on: September 05, 2016, 10:42:07 am »
Hi all.
I've read many thrads about soldering controller in the forum, but is the first post I write. I hope to learn a lot here.

I have a JBC T245 iron and a Hakko T12 chinesse controller like this:

I'm assuming the iron's connections are:

So, if I connect the iron's "+" to "T12+" of the controller, and iron's "-" to controller's "G", heats up correctly and works pretty well.
Nevertheless, if I connect iron's "GND", to controller's "E", my power supply shows a short circuit.
As I've said, the system works well connecting only the iron's "+" and "-", but I think could be not secure to use without connecting the outer shield of the iron tip to ground.
What do you think about it? Could I ground the tip by any way? There're some problem using it like until now?
Thanking you, I look forward to your replies.

Best regards from Spain.

The JBC cartridge has an internal thermocouple connected to the third terminal (the ground sleeve). But on the Hakko T12, the thermocouple is in series with the heater. The ground sleeve on the Hakko is only to provide ESD ground protection to the tip.
The problems you're seeing are expected, given this difference. In effect you've shorted the heater driver to ground.

What the point using JBC soldering iron without temperature control?

Hello @wraper.
The truth is that I've been soldering and desoldering parts on some old motherboards, and with differents temperatures, and works pretty well with the outter sleeve unconnected.
Thank you very much.

Hello.
I've seen in another forum a conversion from Hakko T12 to JBC iron, but have been not tested.
What do you think about?
Thank you.

Best regards.

I connected C245 to controller Ve2.1S thus:

Hi AlienBody,
Thanks for posting on our forum here. Actually I have been reading your comments elsewhere over on easy electronics RU forum (poorly translated, I do not speak any Russian).

http://forum.easyelectronics.ru/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=22786&start=600

Right now my problem is this:

* I cannot find anywhere the controller PCB you have in the picture.
* It seems like an updated revision (r2) of the 1st "V2.1" PCB.
* Which is to say: only modified for adding JBC support. And not these other so-called "Ve2.1S" which is newer and looks totally different with the break out (division) on the side etc.

So I cannot find this PCB anywhere, to buy one exact, or to check for an exact schematic. For where those 2 new pads are connecting. Which are marked 'JBC'.

If you can dig out the seller listing from your original purchase. All that time ago. Then maybe it's not for sale anymore. But at least we can know what the words in the seller listing was. That helps a lot for searching for a newer listing. Because often seller makes a copy-paste.

Thanks again, good day.
