IR Soldering station for BGA work
« on: December 20, 2015, 01:45:05 pm »
Hi,
I have done several PCB's with BGA FPGA's on them, I managed to do the prototypes by sending the job to other company's, but recently my BGA works has gone fare crazy,So I need to be able to do prototypes myself fast, I heard the easy way is by using IR Soldering stations something like this

http://www.ebay.com/itm/T870A-Rework-Station-BGA-IRDA-Welder-Infrared-Heating-For-Computer-Laptop-/171047766868

Is it a good way to enter BGA word myself,Do you suggest any model or any video tutorials?

Hi, sorry for the late answer, busy period.

What type of BGAs you rework?
Don't have that station, but I know it's a pretty poor performer.
Wouldn't go for it.
Might be usable on small pcbs, but even then...
Will be very hard to do larger pcbs and bgas.

For larger boards, surely  with much copper planes a large preheater is very important.
On a larger station you can also do small part.

Give some more info and pictures maybe?

Using IR myself for years now with good success. Nothing H(ot) A(ir) can do my IR can't either.
But surely look at H(ot) A(ir)  too.
It has better controllabilty, many prefer it.
