Low volume wire processing?
« on: July 17, 2015, 07:34:18 pm »
I have been needing more and more wires processed lately and looking for better tools to measure/cut and strip low-volumes (by production norms) of wires.

Typical setup:
16-24 AWG
30-50pcs of 8 different types of stranded wires.
length from 1" - 8"

With normal hand tools, this is a chore. Wire processing machines are very expensive and are targeted at far higher volumes. I am hoping for some manual fixtures and easy stripping tools to take a step up - but not all the way to a full production wire processing station.

I don't have any reference for pricing, but was hoping to find a solution for <$1000 US if that is possible. NOT looking for full automation, just some nice hand/manual tools that will take the sting out of cutting stripping a few hundred pieces at a time.

Any ideas?

Great solution! love that. How much fabrication did you have to do? I don't mind machining some pieces ( I am a a 'near' master' machinist with 5 axis CNC's).

EDIT: I only watched the first 5min, you may have covered those questions in the video.

EDIT 2: Bounced through the rest of the video - you put a ton of effort into that. Nice work. I wish someone had a something like it for sale.

Watch the whole video and I think you will be able to make your own. If you have any questions after that let me know.

There are only a few people that can pull off DIY like that. Clever and simple design.

Do you have any tricks for stripping all those wires?
