That empty space on the two-channel versions is so sad!

Maybe Agilent can make skins for it.  ;D

..was it the lead that came with it from Agilent that had a 13A fuse ? That's a bit naughty if so....
Yes, the lead that came with it had a 13A fuse in it! Very naughty. It is a 2 metre lead though - which is nice.

Sorry to open up this old thread, but I thought I would just confirm that Agilent are still shipping 10A-rated IEC leads with 13A fuses.

Zim has an electric grid which is very similar to the Indian system, but it has more outages. Standard joke is what did Zim have BC ( before candle), answer is electric light.

Is it a problem? As someone pointed out earlier: in the rest of Europe the lead could be fused up to 16 A on the input side, depending on the branch circuit is connected to. That goes for the 2.5 A rated IEC C7 plug too! As for the rest of the world, aren't US branch circuits usually 15 A? What about Australia?

So with a 13 A fuse in the plug the lead would still be fused lower than most other places in the world. Not good enough? ;)

The lead is protected from overload by the fuse in the appliance, which is guaanteed to be below the rating of the lead. I think the idea the safety agencies have is that if the lead itself has a short circuit, say because you drive a nail through it, the short circuit current will be high enough to trip the upstream breaker/fuse even though its rating is higher than that of the lead. Therefore they deem the practive safe and allow it. Is the UK different?

There's nothing wrong with that. The fuse is to protect the cable, not the IEC connector. That will be sufficiently protected by the fuse in the device, via the chassis plug.

Yes. Because we use 32A ring final circuits in many installations, the plugs are fused to afford protection to the flex.

The $140K Agilent 90000 uses the C15 "IEC" lead.
Found that out the hard way when I left the cord in the box in the garage and took the scope to the lab...

Dave.

Almost certainly so people will come to them for replacement cables. There's no way that thing can be running hot enough to need one.

Very disappointing.

A $140k device darn' well better come with a very expensive gold plated power cord, or I would feel cheated.

Sorry, maybe I was unclear. I was wondering why some thought a 13 A fuse in the plug wouldn't be low enough when 16 A is accepted in most other places, and that even for the 2.5 A rated C7 leads.

Same reason people think you should put a smaller fuse in the lead to your TV. Because they don't quite get that it's to protect the flex and nothing else.

I also bought this wonderful scope DSOX2002A, because there was a free voltmeter / counter (DSOXDVM) and even free 20MHz function generator (DSOX2WAVEGEN).

What i have found at my DSO-X2002A:
Pros
Upgradability.
The scope is easy to operate thanks to the pushable knobs. Much better than GW Instek or Tektronix. Why don't they use pushbuttons?
It is better to buy a scope that is being manufactured for two years or so. There always might be problems with the first units built.
Installing the new firmware was easy. Evereyone can download it at Agilent webpage.
Buy this scope if you will often use the XY mode, OK, only a few people actually need it. But it has XY cursors and even Z-blanking.
It has two USB ports for flash disc.
The fan is large and quiet, but I cannot compare it to the Rigol DS1000.
The free wavegen (function generator) is great. It has even AM FM and FSK.
The machine is quite large and heavy, someone might want a Hameg HM2024 Instead.  :D It never tends to fall down when you push a button.
I obtained free papers with certificates for DVM and WAVEGEN. It was also easy to download the licences from Agilent web. The DVM is nice.
The waveform update rate is as fast as Agilent specified in datasheet. It can be easily measured by a cheap multimeter with counter. The waveform update rate doesn't go low when you use two channels or even FFT.
I couldn't find a firmware bug. Is there any?
I like the separate cursor knob.

Minor cons:
It has no beeper.
The probes are fixed at 1:10.
There is no real 230V power switch, it consumes about 5W when "switched off". Well, this was no surprise to me, i saw Dave's video.
While the scope is quite heavy, the plastic handle is rather small and maybe not so hard-wearing??
The scope is always in vectors mode, no way to switch to dots.
There is no memory setting or info in the menu. But I measured that in Single mode the scope uses 100kpoint per channel. When in Run/Stop mode, it uses 50kpoints per channel. It doesn't matter if you use one or all two channels. It is somehow mentioned in the manual.
Not possible to use both cursors and auto measurements.
No alt trigger mode. But only a few middle class scopes have it.
Only four automatic measurements at one time + DVM.
It is not possible to do serial decoding when digital channels are on.
Only a few trigger modes. But no problem with that.
Not possible to create folders on USB in scope.

This Easter Egg is probably wellknown, isn't it? Well, I would prefer a Tetris instead of Etch-A-scope.

Yes - IEC plugs are only rated 10A so should never have a 13A fuse in the plug.

That's not quite right. The specific IEC sockets on most equipment are rated for 10A, but there are IEC plugs and sockets rated up to 20A, specifically the C19/C20 contact set is not uncommon.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IEC_60320
Although there are other varients, I was referring to the specific type used on the scope, which is also what most people refer to as an IEC plug. Others are sufficiently rare that they are usually referred to by their specific type as opposed to just IEC.
There are PC power supplies above 1kW that use the "10A" IEC connector. I presume the actual connectors used are rated for more.

Please, where is the main fuse in DSOX2000? Is it the device marked green on Dave's picture? I could not find any traditional glass fuse. Anyway, my scope is OK. There is no need to change the fuse now.  :)

Yes, that's the fuse..

Why are you looking at the fuse?

Because I couldn't find it at first sight. I expected a glass fuse to be hidden somewhere. I prefer the fuse placement at GW Instek GDS-2000A. It's easy replaceable.

Next photos. It is possible to observe a 100 MHz waveform. The snapshot all measurement doesn't update.  :-- The back storage box is a great feature. I put there two probes, USB disc and some tiny accesories.

Measuring the waveform update rate at 5ns/div. The Trig Out signal is about 50kHz and 5Vpp. It can be easily measured by any scope, counter or multimeter. Two channels on and even FFT running.

At 200us/div, the Trig Out pulses are wider and still 5Vpp.

It wouldn't be a Windows-based scope without the blue screen of death and Press any key message.

According to the user manual it seems that only Hewlett Packard inkjet printers work with this scope. www.agilent.com/find/InfiniiVision-printers.
My Canon Pixma USB printer didn't work. Well, I would hardly ever need it. The scope even doesn't support Pict Bridge USB printers, while Tektronix and Rigol do.  ???

Measuring very small signal is weird. The trigger seems not to work and the DVM counter is wrong.   :o Hi-res mode was used.
