New Toy-YiHUA 853D+PLUS Rework Station.
« on: October 21, 2011, 04:21:21 am »
Hi All,
today I received my new YiHUA 853D+PLUS. I have taken a few photos for you all to see. It contains a Hot Air Rework tool, Soldering Iron and a basic Power Supply (0-15V at up to 2Amps). For those with limited space, this is an ideal tool.

The box contains:
The Main Unit.
A spare element for the Hot Air gun and the Soldering Iron.
6 Soldering Iron tips.
4 Hot Air nozzles.
Set of leads for the power supply.

I got mine from eBay auction: #220877083517 for anyone interested.

Now for the pics.

I have just finished playing with it. Its Hot Air works very well, the Soldering Iron seems to work well but i have not done any serious work with it. I will do more testing on the power supply tomorrow , or maybe tonight.

Just tested the Soldering iron. Not much you can say about soldering irons, but this one uses a Hakko element and tips. It seems to heat up very quick from room temp(a matter of seconds). This helps its rapid thermal recovery after each use.

The power supply volt meter seems to be approx 70mV from actual. Not too bad given the 100mV resolution of the display.

It would be a more comparable measure to know if it heats to the proper temperature in terms of seconds.

The Hakko 936, and similarly the Fx888, will get to 350C in 40 sec or less.  The Metcal 5000 in 6 seconds.

To compare your new iron, you need to be able to measure the tip temperature with some accuracy.

If you have any eutectic solder around such as Sn99.3Cu0.7 which melts at 227C, the Hakko 936 reaches that temp in under 20 seconds.

Saturation, I have tested the warm up time using 60/40 solder. It took the iron approx 25 seconds to melt the solder. I don't have a reliable way of measuring the tip temperature so this is the best I can do for now.

That's fairly decent, 60/40 melts at ~ 190C, 25 sec so it should reach 350C in under 50 sec [ estimating at 50 sec it will be at 380C, or 190x2 ]

A spare element for the Hot Air gun and the Soldering Iron.

Does this indicate the manufacturer is a open hearted and likes to give or the heaters are so bad they felt bad about not providing a spare  :) ?
Oh, the joy of sending various electronics to silicon heaven
