Push down / pump alcohol dispenser
« on: June 02, 2015, 03:36:11 am »
I am looking for a push down alcohol dispenser similar to this:

I don't want one that sucks however.  That is one that evaporates quickly, has suction problems, breaks, etc.  The #1 best rated on on Amazon is this one:

http://www.amazon.com/Lotion-Antistatic-Dissipative-Dispenser-Stainless/dp/B00CIBAFMM/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1433216031&sr=8-2&keywords=alcohol+dispenser

But its a bit pricey, as I would like to get 2 or even 3 of them.  Anyone got any experiences?

I don't have experience with the brand you linked but can vouch for Menda branded dispensers which I have used at work for years without fail

I got a couple off ebay for far less, but wasn't impressed with the quality. They take a lot of priming and tend to need re-priming if not used for a few days. The extra cost for a good one might be worthwhile (if it is indeed a good one, rather than a poor one with a marked-up price).

I can also vouch for the Menda dispensers.  They are quality.

Mouser carries a decent selection.  I like the little 2oz one, #35304.

Another vote for Menda:-+

Warning: Enough combinations of pump types, bottle size, ESD or not, bottle material, pump material, ... you could get a bit dizzy.  :P

Be aware that if you don't use them regularly even the good Menda push-pump bottles can be kind of a pain.  Quick evaporating solvents will still evaporate/drain out of the pump even with the lid closed, so if you go more than a few days between uses, you have to reprime the pump.  The Mendas are great for frequent use, but for infrequent use a small squeeze bottle may be better.

For a cheap solution,  how about a pump pack used for hand alcohol gel?
Whoah! Watch where that landed we might need it later.

I bought the Mendas, but just one.  I think I got the 6oz.  If it works well I may pick up a few more.  I also picked up a 24pk of stiff tipped 1/4" Acid Brushes, real cheap, hopefully they were ok.

Here it is with can for comparison.  I got the 6oz, which is still quite large for my needs, I may in the future buy the 4oz:

I have that exact one from Amazon.  I usually leave the lid flipped open and have zero problem with alcohol evaporating from the container.  In fact, I've had it a year and have not yet refilled it, although that is coming soon.

Thinking about getting a second one for acetone, but you're right about the price; it is high for such a simple device.  Still, I think mine was money well spent.
