Quick 861DW
« on: May 16, 2018, 01:35:18 pm »
I received a Quick 861DW yesterday (less than a week's delivery time from China).
I've only read good reviews about this machine so I was surprised to find:
  • a broken fuse holder
  • an incorrectly fitted snail blower motor
  • a wonky transformer (bent mounting lugs)
(the packaging was immaculate; the machine had obviously been boxed in poor condition)
oh -  and it came with the mandatory shite plug adapter which didn't work.

A new plug and half an hour's repair time later it was working perfectly which, for 220GBP all in, I thought was OK. (UK Import duty and admin fee alone would be circa 60GBP+ I guess.)
I was going to post a  link for anyone wanting to take a chance but the seller seems to have been kicked off fleabay!

Anyway, now it's working, it really is a very nice machine.

Are you sure it is not a knockoff..? I seem to recall that there are fakes available from China but I could be wrong on this.

I would definitely compare it to pictures of real units. Sounds like a fake

1st and 3rd sound like a mechanical damage during shipping. For second, provide a photo.
FWIW it's stupid to order from china because it is not cheaper than buying in EU.

Packaging may stay intact but heavy item may be damaged if it's dropped. It also depends on how sturdy item is fixed in the package.

@mbless @agehall :
No, it's not a fake, it's definitely a kosher Quick. Same as in Dave's video. Wiring is excellent, good pcbs, chunky wand holder with auto sensing (which really works) etc. I have seen one fake which looks entirely different and has all the "QC Passed" stickers rubbish - this chap is in a different class altogether.

I saved around 70GBP+ ( $100+ guess) on this deal compared with the very cheapest EU deal I could find.

Maximum you could save is around GBP 50 given that it slips through the customs untaxed.

I deleted that message just after posting as price was incorrect. GBP 220 is only possible if it was not taxed. In case of UK, it's possible only by breaching the law.

Oh, what a shame. That would have been a good deal. I just checked that link today (Sat) -  price is 306EUR/267GBP inc tax, exc delivery.
For anyone in the UK, I see another fleabay seller offering the deal I got here https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/220V-QUICK-861DW-Hot-Air-Rework-Station-Spot-Genuine-Original-Crack-861DW-120L/112681267520?hash=item1a3c53b140:g:qQcAAOSwZB9aK7Go. Identical ad. and, yes, mine was delivered by DHL.

When buy this kind of equipment and want to buy from China, i recommend Aliexpress. You got much more information about the seller and the control is better. You can select what you buy much better and read the reviews from others users. Lists and sellers do not evaporate if they have large feedback and selling years, even so you can trigger a dispute and if they not anwser you win.
eBay otherwise can be used to make this kind of "not-so-good deal" sells and feedback there is not good as aliexpress, eBay buyer protection is great and most of the times burn the seller (not fair), but this kind of equipment is not the thing you want to send back for a warranty or dispute and sellers know that.

As EU alternative, i also recommend: https://www.eleshop.nl/quick-861dw-esd-heteluchtstation.html

What do you ugly bastards reckon about this one here: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/220V-110V-700W-Soldering-Station-YOUYUE-8586-2-in-1-SMD-Rework-Station-Hot-Air-Gun/32804648968.html ?

Seem legit ? It works out to be about $200 NZD cheaper than buying locally.

I was looking at purchasing a Quick 861DW sometime soon as well.
Why is the brand listed as something other than 'Quick'?

Maybe because that article was original other station as you can see by link name. They forget to change and copy paste from another guy

The blower in my Quick 861DW just failed. I appears something in the blower failed and the impeller is rubbing against the cage.

You can try to open and check things, is not hard to dissambly.
Or if you can return for warranty

you all do realize that Quick is a Chinese company, based in China ?
quick-usa.com  is their NA subsidiary.

since the clones are also made in china ,

is there a reference chart or pdf somewhere or a thread regarding components , marks etc inside, outside of genuine Quick 861DW unit.?

How does it affect the fact knockoffs are available in China in any way?
