Hello everybody, while trying to dump (again) some Rigol scope memory with an Altera USB Blaster clone and crying blood at the speed of 7KB/s  |O, I was wondering if anybody knows an JTAG dongle that can offer a higher speed and it fits a budget of up to 25EUR.
I don't care if it's a clone of a professional thingie like J-Link, because I don't want to use the proprietary software, just OpenOCD.

Any suggestions, pointers to fleabay, etc. are very appreciated, I'm not young anymore and this shit is wasting my lifetime.

 Many tanks,
 DC1MC

That's quite a cool typo, I'm coming up with some interesting pictures in my mind ...

Yeah, my fever totally refuses to go down, even with this unholy cocktail of junk that I have to take  :'(
But still I want a fast JTAG dongle :)

 Less tanks and more thanks ;),

Come on ladies and gentlemen, look at this and have mercy ;)

IMO it's more a question if OpenOCD can handle the processor in an efficient way - On a well supported device like a STM32 controller, one may expect some 10s of KB/sec with a FTDI based adapter (which the blaster is, afaik).
So you might want to check e.g. the J-Link software for supported processors and get a J-Link EDU (or chinese similar). I neither have a Rigol scope nor a J-Link that isn't locked to a device family, so I can't check this for you.

Well Capt, I'l totally want to support Segger with their EDU version, but it's a bit over my budget, like three times more :(, and not easily available in DE, sold "by distributors only".

Oh well, I feel a bit better now, let's see maybe we'll got some new candidates :)

 Cheers,

Altera USB Blaster (even knock offs) uploads 1 MB file in a couple seconds into Altera FPGA SRAM. So it is not hardware limitation, it is on OpenOCD and its configuration. For starters, I would check the clock frequency on the TCK pin.

That was exactly my idea, it could be that in the device CPLD there is some "secret sauce" to accelerate the loading and get over the the miserable bit banging, but if nobody knows about it then it's useless.
I don't use JTAG that much to justify a budget over 20 something EUR or want to do too much research, but it has to be something better than this crap, and this is what I was hoping to find out with my initial request for help.
I'm still hoping that something will come up, being an optimist by nature  :-DD

 Cheers,
 DC1MC - feeling a little better

Segger is German, so I don't think it's hard to find it there.
Here is one example http://www.ak-modul-bus.de/stat/segger_j_link_edu.html.

Have you actually measured the clock frequency? What clock frequency you have supplied to OpenOCD?

Altera USB Blaster is known left to right and top to bottom, there are no secrets in it.

Hi Grommit, I thought that everybody performed "lazy evaluation" of an expression, let me use parentheses and rephrase:

if (  ( price < 3*budget ) && ( !sold_only_by_distributors )  )
 {
     splurge( price ):
 }

So you see, when an AND expression member evaluates to FALSE, no need to proceed with the other members evaluation, this why MISRA C forbids expressions with side effects.  ;D

But I'm not a bloody compiler, so if anybody comes and tells me that this particular adapter works extraordinarily well with OpenOCD from his own experience, not google, I can be convinced to try it.
Yes, I know that it works very well with their proprietary software.

 Cheers,
 DC1MC
