Replacement Soldering Iron/Tips for ZD-937?
« on: May 12, 2017, 11:00:53 pm »
Hi,

I've just had to find out that after changing connectors on my cheap Hakko soldering iron clone that it won't work with my ZD-937 station because Hakko uses a thermistor to measure tip temperature and my ZD-937 station expects a thermocouple. The tip gets hot but the station signals error because it can't sense the temperature.

Can anybody give me a suggestion where to find cheap spare tips or a reasonable priced spare soldering iron? The typical Chinese places are flooded with Hakko-stuff but my ZD-937 with 4-pin connector and 5.9mm diameter heating element seems to be a dead end?

Any suggestions?

Leif

This company is in Florida. But for reference:

dirt... cheap...

I used this station/iron for quite a few years, myself. Cheap tips, cheap irons, terrible tip selection. It's too bad you can't use the Hakko.

I'm not fresh on the difference between a thermocouple and a thermistor sensor, but perhaps you can interject an opamp to tweak the gain? Once you get a replacement iron, anyhow, you can record the voltage at various temps to map it out and then... well, hah, yeah, this is a huge waste of time... one that I did at one point in making a DIY temp controlled station.

The usual Chinese suspects should be flooded with spare parts for that series.
I have the older versions and I can find tips and parts very easily and cheaply, both locally and on the internet
