Soldering station!?
« on: May 11, 2017, 11:30:40 am »
Greetings.
I am planing to buy myself a new soldering station because my cheap (light dimmer style circuit) died.
You don't need to tell me to buy a hakko or weller because I live in Croatia and you have to give an arm and a Di*k to buy one.
So... was searching online and came across these:
http://www.tme.eu/hr/details/pensol-sr976/lemne-stanice/sorny-roong-industrial/
http://www.tme.eu/hr/details/pensol-sl10-n/lemne-stanice/sorny-roong-industrial/
http://www.tme.eu/hr/details/pensol-sl10e-n/lemne-stanice/sorny-roong-industrial/
http://www.tme.eu/hr/details/pensol-sl20c/lemne-stanice/sorny-roong-industrial/
Have you heard of this soldering stations and are they any good?
Witch one would you buy and why.
If you have any other recommendation please tell me (nothing more than 150$)
THANKS

A co-worker has the Yihua 937d+ and it appears to be a good unit.
Another option would be a clone T12 handle and a 'controller' for it.

All of that is junk. As you are in Europe, get ERSA I-CON pico https://www.amazon.de/Ersa-i-CON-Digitale-L%C3%B6tstation-0IC1300/dp/B008HPD0L6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1494511013&sr=8-1&keywords=i-con+pico

Not as bad than those solomons but not good either. Passable knockoff is still a knockoff.

I don’t know if they will ship to Croatia and how much it would be, but you could get the Hakko FX-888D for 98€ at http://www.batterfly.com/shop/hakko/hakko_fx-888d right now. Edit: -> From Italy that is.

Sretno!

I know you don't have a soldering iron. My post is counter intuitive. If you can borrow one temporarily and wish to take DIY route, take a look at the following link

http://dangerousprototypes.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=56&t=7218

Probably it may be little over your budget. Initially, you can stick to a clone of Hakko 907. Later you can consider buying a JBC T245 handle and couple of cartridges. Recently I bought a T245 handle for $45 and couple of cartridges for $13.50 ea on eBay, for the station I am building.

98 + 38 shipping + 22% VAT = EUR 166. Way more expensive than I-CON pico and almost approaching price of I-CON nano (if you need ESD safe) https://www.amazon.de/Ersa-i-CON-Digitale-L%C3%B6tstation-0IC1200A/dp/B002MQLJ46/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1494519885&sr=8-1&keywords=I-con+nano which is way way better.

you can get pcb's, or a kit for that.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Universal-soldering-controller-for-Hakko-JBC-and-etc-soldering-UniSolder-5-2-/222478565688

@Pexy13, If you wish to build one, probably you should check on this forum. Someone might have PCB's to spare.

You will not be regretting this :)
The Pico is about the same high performance as the Nano minus ESD safety.

Enjoy your new tool!

Yes, Nano has exactly the same PCBs inside the station and soldering iron. The difference is different heating element and no ground wire from mains wire to the main PCB. Also could be non ESD safe plastic for the case and soldering iron, but that needs to be tested. On the other hand, it's not said that OP has grounded outlets in his home in the first place.

run a jumper wire to a cold water pipe...there's your ground...    :>)
